Goal Type:

Boston Qualifier

Running Accomplishments:

Last year I decided to run a marathon. I finally got in St. George, ran a 3:31, maybe could have gone faster but ran Logan 2 weeks before as a training run, and was going to drop out if I felt like I was going to bonk, finished in 3:37 or something, not bad for my first 2 at 40.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Finish the St. George runners series races to be a sure thing for the marathon.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to do at least 2 marathons a year, and not die at Coure de Alene in June.

Personal:

I am married to the most supportive lady in the world, sorry all other dudes, but you got second best there. She's the best, I also have 2 daughters, that are 16 and 13. They are pretty dang cool too.

Good luck in your ironman. I hope you don't die, too.

Your a big gay man:) I'm glad you got on the blog. It is really good at giving you some accountability. Cowboy up and start running in 5 inches of snow. I am dreading coming home to that crap.

From Smooth on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 16:55:54

WOW!!! you got out there early and ran a pretty fast 6 miler in 9F. AWESOME!!! Was the Jordan R Parkway plowed? Keep up the good work. Which races are you doing (or have done) for the runner series? Which two marathons are you running this year. Your SGM times both years were VERY IMPRESSIVE!!

Good luck with your training for the tri. Oh, and WELCOME to the blog. Looks to me you are gonna be a NICE contributor here. Look forward to reading about your training.

From walter on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 19:18:12

You swam over a mile? that is awesome. I need to get back at it. I want to train for a couple tri's this year.

From Julie on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 20:38:43

Hey CJ. I'm so glad you finally have a blog. You're training looks great. You should have run with us today. It was 17 degrees in South Jordan. It's always colder on trail.

From nicole on Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 22:01:05

I wish I was in the carribbean! But then coming back to 9 degrees, that's rough! I feel for your kids, Marley & Me had me violently sobbing... I NEVER need to see a movie that sad again!

From Nic on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 16:12:59

Ya, it's rough sometimes running in the tropical hawaii weather. I usually don't run very much in the winter because I hate the cold but here I can run all year long. Good luck with the ironman. I have the dedication to do one someday but putting in the training hours worry me and it doesn't help that I can't get up before 5:45 to workout.

Today I ran the river trail again, felt a little tired from last nights swim, but actually ran at a decent pace. It was colder than a .......... Anyway, enough of that, i thought about my report as I was running this morning. My question to all is, How freaking awesome are ipods? I'm cookin along listening to the craziest playlist of all time! I went from Daughtry to Metalica, to Pink, The Stones, Guns and roses, to Robby Williams. I'm listening to this and laughing. it lifts you up and puts a spring in your step when out of nowhere Eminem comes on, you know, the song from "8 Mile". Holy crap I started running fast. Oh well, enough about talking about that, because you all probably have experienced it already!

On a more personal note, during these horrible economic times, my family and I have decided to read a chapter in the scriptures, and say family prayers every night. I don't care what religion you belong to, it  will bring you closer together, and your little one will realise that time spent with them is very important. I'm not preaching, I'm just relaying what our family has experienced, and like I said earlier, it doesn't matter what church you go to or what what you believe, it will bring happiness, I promise...

Its been a while since  I wrote something, so here it goes. Last night I ran my standard river bottom trail run, it was 6.18 miles, it felt tough, and like I was dragging around a piano. After all said and done, I ran faster than any time this year, so much for my slow and easy build for the ironman in June. I went home and got on my bike and rode 20 miles on my bike trainer, it is so boring, but at least I got to watch American Idol. I'm just glad that tomarrow all I have to do is swim.

Well last night I ran an awesome 11 miler, until.... mile 8, it was there that it happened. You all know what I'm talking about, especially if you have run for any amount of time. It was the dreaded PENGUIN RUN!!!!! You know, when out of nowhere you need to offload all food intake from the previous meals! There was nowhere to go but home, and by the grace of the allmighty, I made it!!! After which I engaged in the most awesome happy dance you have ever seen!! All in all though it was a fantastic run, can we all say at once? Spring is nigh!

Hahahaha. Been there.

I was running a local peak last year and got hit by what I call the "12 minute rule". My general rule normally applies to restaurants, but in this case it was the next morning.

Long story short, there is half of a sleeve to my Ralph Lauren shirt somewhere buried near the top of the Sugarloaf lift at Alta, UT.

I have pictures to prove it - of the lack of sleeve, that is.

Today I had a great run, it was the Spectrum 10k, and had perfect conditions! It is the first run in 2 weeks that I haven't been sick, I took a few days off fom Ironman training, and tried to get better. Thursday, I had cabin fever sooo bad that I just went and ran anyway, and felt o.k. While running the 10k I came across a celebrity!! It was SMOOTH! Yes she is as nice in person! After the race, I had a great bike ride, I went 62 miles and felt strong until mile 50 when I realised I hadn't eaten in a while so I snarfed a power bar, and kept going and finished strong! All in all, it was a great day!

Just a note to all runners!Do not bike 30 miles on a Wednesday night, not eat anything but a granola bar, then the next morning do 15 miler, with a couple flasks of water and an energy gel in case you need it. That combo spells desaster, and in my case at mile 13 a bonk an a half!!!!! All I could think about is " you're a freakin idiot!" At least I finished but at a 10minute pace.

Ha. I don't mean to laugh, but look at my last Saturday. I ran 18 which made me tired enough because I had never ran that far. But then, an hour later I was talked into an 'easy' bike ride with my son and step-father. 15 miles later I felt like I was going to die. Hahaha.
